क्या तुम सुन रही हो,माँ

Hi!friends, sharing with you my favourite poem, composed by me both in Hindi and English and translated into Bengali by reputed poet Shyamal Kumar Majumder from Bangladesh and in Rajasthani by reputed poet Ravi Purohit from Bikaner. I wish this poem to be translated in as many languages in the whole world as possible. Support from translators world wide will be held in great esteem by me.


क्या तुम सुन रही हो,माँ

माँ,तुम अक्सर कहा करती थी
बबली,इतनी खामोश क्यों हो
कुछ तो बोला करो
मन के दरवाज़े पर दस्तक दो
शब्दों की आहट से खोला करो


अब मुखर हुई हूँ,
तुम ही नहीं सुनने के लिए
विचारों का जो कारवां
तुम मेरे ज़हन में छोड़ गयी
वादा है तुमसे
यूं ही बढ़ते  रहने दूंगी


सारी कायनात में तुम्हारी झलक देख
सरल शब्दों की अभिव्यक्ति को
निर्मल सरिता सा
यूं ही बहने दूंगी


मेरा मौन अब
स्वरित हो गया है/
माँ,क्या तुम सुन रही हो

Maa! You often used to ask me
Babli, why are you so silent
Usher something
Give vent to your thought
Knock at the door of mind
Open it with sound of your words.

I am vocal now
But you are not here
To listen me.
Caravan of thoughts
That you left behind
In my mind
I promise you
To let it move
On and on

Viewing your glimpse
In whole Universe.
I will pen-craft
Spontaneous flow of
My thoughts
Like a stream of pure water. My silence has vocalized.
But, are you listening Maa?

শুনছো, মা মা!
তুমি প্রায়ই আমাকে বলতে
বাবলি, এত চুপ কেনো
কিছু ব্যক্ত করো
তোমার ভাবনাগুলো বের হওয়ার সুযোগ করে দাও।
মনের দরজায় আঘাত হানো
তোমার বাণীসমূহের শব্দে মনের দরজা খুলে ফেলো। আমি এখন ধ্বনিময়
কিন্তু তুমি তো এখন এখানে নেই যে শুনবে।
যেসব চিন্তার কাফেলা
আমার অন্তরে রেখে গেছো
আমি প্রতিজ্ঞা করছি
আমি তা অবিশ্রান্তভাবে
সচল রাখবো। তোমার ক্ষীণ আলোয় দেখে
এই বিশ্ব চরাচরে
আমি কলম-শিল্পী হবো
যে বিশুদ্ধ জলের ঝর্ণাধারার মত
স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে ছলছল প্রবাহিত হবে। আমার নৈশব্দ এখন কল্লোলিতো।
তুমি কি শুনতে পাচ্ছো, মা?




कांई थूं सुण रैयी है मां !
मां ! थूं केई बार कैवती
बबली, थूं चुप क्यूंह ैकी ं तो बोल्या करमन दरूजो कदै तो खड़काकाळजै री आगळ कदै तो सबदां रै खोजां खोल ।अबै म्हैं जागगी मांथूं ई सुणबा नै त्यार नीं हैभाव-चींत रा जिका बीजथूं छिड़कगी म्हारै मन-आंगणै,राख पतियारो ! कौल है म्हाराइण विध ई बधता रैसी । आखै चोखळै थारी छिब नैसीधै सबदां भाखूंलीनिरमळ नदिया ज्यूंइण ढाळै ई बैवती रैसीथारी मन री सीख-धार ! म्हारो अबोलो मूनअबै बोलण ढूक्यो है मांकांई थूं सुण रैयी है ?

Hands picking garbage
Segregating
Pieces of cardboard, bottles of wine
Banned plastic bags
Pieces of bread smeared with fungus
Show each and every object its proper place.

Wife of waste dealer
Weighs pieces of cardboard
Weighs banned plastic bags
Counts wine bottles
Pretends to be arithmetician
And hands over half day wages of Manrega.

Hands that pick garbage
Are equally apt at playing drums
Physique stretched from head to toe
Dances as well.
Faces defeat sometimes and sings at other times
But these hands are never raised for begging.

Their off springs
Want to pick gold in midst of drains
But come across
Hidden decayed remnants of
Excreta of human beings

I extend my heartiest gratitude to Ravi Purohit ji, reputed poet of Rajasthani and Hindi and Sahitya Akedemi Award Winner 2016, for Rajasthani Translation. It is still more a matter of joy for me as this is prime translation of my English poems in Rajasthani. Earlier, Poems from my English Poetry Books MORTGAGED and MAIDEN STEP have been translated by famous poet Shymal Majumdar jifrom Bangladesh and Subir Majumdar ji from Kolkata, into Bengali. PRELUSION OF MY ENGLISH POETRY BOOK 'REVERIES'


                                                     PRELUSION
It gives me fathomless pleasure to share my maiden translated poetry book with poetry lovers all over the world, a translation of Panjabi  poems, composed by Dr. Amarjeet Kaunke , a powerful signature in the literary world.
Dr. Kaunke is not only a reputed poet, but also a critic, editor and versatile translator, treading on the path of words since 1985. I have been a voracious reader of his literary works since many years and his poems stir my mind.
He is visionary poet and his poems cover a thematic variety. He covers diverse aspects of life: love, pangs of separation, love for environment, traditions, culture, complicacies of modern life, political and social scenario of the present world, deep association with his roots and emotional attachment with native land.
His poetic world is not confined to any particular theme and his poems are an expression of a human being, swaying in the ocean of reveries and with a will to survive. Perpetually interacting with life and the world, he is a distinguished poet. His poems are enriched with his straight forwardness, sensibility, lofty thoughts and deep perception.
Recently, one more feather is added to his cap. He is recipient of Sahitya Akedemi Translator’s Award 2016, for his Book AURAT MERE ANDAR, translated into Panjabi.
He has more than a dozen literary works to his credit, out of which, I have translated poems  from ‘Smritiyaan Di Lalten’, ‘Yakeen’ and ‘Piyaas’
Being a Panjabi, poetess and polyglot myself, I feel it my sacred duty to enrich the literature of Panjabi and make it accessible on global level. I have composed very few poems in Panjabi myself, but by Grace of God, have a good grasping of the language. A thought flashed in my mind that I should translate literary works of laureates of Panjabi into English to render these wider approach in India, as well as abroad and the result is this venture. My family, too, boosted this noble idea. I have tried my level best to retain the soul of original poems and will heartily appreciate views and comments of readers.
It will give me immense satisfaction if these translated poems of mine provide a treat not only for eyes, but also for mind of readers world wide.

SPIRITUALISM AND SCIENCE

SPIRITUALISM AND SCIENCE( CHAPTER 4)
BY Dr. KIRAN NAHATA    SENIOR SCHOLAR OF RAJASTHANI LANGUAGE
Can there be any co ordination between spiritualism and science. We can say that science is in search of truth and spiritualism is also a pursuit for search of truth; hence, from this point of view, both are on the same path. But the truth about which we are talking is what is the viewpoint of science towards it and what is the viewpoint of religion regarding it. What is the source of approach used by science for knowing this truth and what sources are used by religion for knowing it. Science chiefly relies on intellectual proofs. Generally, a viewpoint that is not acceptable on intellectual level is not accepted by science. Whatever fact can’t be proved on level of experiments, science is reluctant to accept. Whereas, situation is utterly distinct in religion. In religion, when we speak about a truth, first of all comes devotion and then follower of that path moves on it. God exists, His sovereignty exists, his existence prevails and soul exists as well; after accepting all these notions, seeker of truth moves ahead under guidance of his spiritual mentor. And peculiarity about it is that every person has to find his truth separately in his own way, whereas in science, there is no such criteria that every being has to find his own truth. Hence, this is the main issue.
A major difference between science and spiritualism exists in means and end. In spiritualism, we can not attain a pure end by impure means. In science, you can prove your truth even by money acquired by theft or forcibly grabbed money or even after slaughter of creatures or killing thousands of monkeys. These means are not hindering their truth. This is not at all acceptable in sphere of spiritualism. Purity of means is essential in spiritualism.

Third point to be mentioned is that whatsoever is associated with spiritualism cannot be earned through money.  The truth that you arrive at through devotion, concentration and meditation, money does not stand between all these. But attainments that science acquires, the inventions and their results, everybody buys through money. Those who are financially well off buy these techniques for their own purposes. Nothing such prevails in spiritualism.

Foreword by Dr J.S Anand  for REVERIES,  my forthcoming Translated English Poetry Book

Dr. Amarjit Kaunke is a well established name in the field of translation and poetic creation. He has been awarded Translation Award by the Sahitya Academy as well. He has translated more than two dozen books, and thus, from Punjabi to Hindi, he has enriched the literary treasure of his mother tongue as well as the national language, Hindi.The translation of his poetry by Rajni Chhabra deserves appreciation for more than one reasons. She has been able to keep intact the taste of the original, at the same time, she has been able to do justice to the English idiom as well. Amarjit Kaunke’s poems establish a direct connect with the reader immediately as the poem starts, and then, he is led over various nuances of the idea as the poet wants to show him.The poetry of love, loss and despair, has a distinct stance: it is highly emotional, yet shows neutrality in its presentation. Amarjit’s poetry establishes him as a poet of a balanced stance. His poetry discusses the turmoil and turbulence of life, yet he maintains the equipoise of a seer or a prophet, who knows so much, sees so much, feels so much, and says so much, in words so few. Avoiding extremes. Amarjit, as we find in case of many young writers, has been possessed by a rare vision of society which is free from social discrimination and he dreams of a world of equality, love and co-existence. Rejecting violence, he reposes his faith in the affability of human wit and wisdom, and believes that ultimately, men will be able to sort out the entangled issues and the world will encounter an environment of mental equipoise in which humanity could realize its dreams of a better world.

 This is not the first work of translation by Rajni Chhabra. She is a talented poet and polyglot who has served at All India Radio, Bikaner and a blogger. Numerology is her hobby. Rooted deep in the literary tradition, Rajni Chhabra has done justice to the poetry of Amarjit Kaunke. The translation gives the impression of original writing and this is the measure of success of a translator. Another important aspect of translation is that the translator does not impress the work with own vision even when disagrees with the original author.

I can say with certainty that Amarjit Kaunke’s work in Punjabi has eternal qualities of balance, equipoise of a seasoned personality, and is informed by a vision of a happy state of being. And, Rajni Chhabra has been able to carry forward the mission into English with great success. I congratulate both the authors on this rare success.

उल्फत
नींद को पंख लगे कभी
कभी पंखों को नींद आ गयी
बेताबी में सुकून कभी
कभी सुकून पे
बेताबी छा गयी
सुर्ख उनींदी आँखों से
अधजगी रातों में
तारे गिनने की कवायद
तेरी उल्फत में
यही रस्म ए वफ़ा
हमें रास आ गयी/


तुमसे कैसा यह नाता है

खुशियाँ तुम्हें मिलती है
दामन मेरा भर जाता है
करवटें तुम बदलते हो
सुकून मेरा छिन जाता है
आहत तुम होते हो
आब मेरी आँखों में
उभर जाता है

अश्क़ छलकने से पहले
